Eyewitness to Jan. 6, 2021 attack looks back 2 years later

As the U.S. marks the second anniversary of the Jan. 6 insurrection, It’s All Journalism is reposting our 2022 interview with Tia Mitchell, the Washington correspondent for The Atlanta Journal Constitution.

On Jan. 6, 2021, Tia was in the U.S. Capitol, expecting to cover the actions of several Georgia lawmakers who said they planned to challenge the certification of the 2020 presidential election. The day turned out to be much different from what Tia — and most of the rest of the country — had anticipated.

Tia shared her experience of being a reporter inside the U.S. Capitol as it was being stormed by supporters of former President Donald Trump.

In addition to our 2022 interview, this week’s episode includes a conversation I had with Tia in December. We catch up on what’s been going on with her and what Jan. 6, 2021 looks like two years later.
